Saint Nicholas does not exist!
We've just had a special episode of the Sinterklaas Journaal. A special news bulletin, normally only broadcasted a month before the 5th of December. This special episode was to announce to everyone (mainly the parents/adults) that the Sinterklaas I grew up with, is handing over to someone else. It was cleverly done, but for me, and I think most adult growing up with Bram van der Vlugt, it was extremely confusing. You heard the voice of Sinterklaas coming out or an older person (Bram van der Vlugt) and then you saw a Sinterklaas, looking younger then you were used to, with a totally different voice.

I’m not sure you have the same thing with Santa anywhere else, but here in Holland you have one official Sinterklaas. Whenever Sinterklaas is on telly, it’s the same Sinterklaas. No doubt about it, Sinterklaas is Sinterklaas. Of course, when you meet Sinterklaas somewhere in the country, you just know it’s an assistant. But on television it’s always THE Sinterklaas But now the Sinterklaas on telly is the the assistant!

So I’m afraid I now really have to stop believing in Sinterklaas. This is a terribly sad day!

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no problems with Bram van der Vlugt retiring, I wish him all the best! But Sinterklaas isn't Sinterklaas anymore. Even though I grew up with a different Sinterklaas (Adrie van Oorschot), Bram van der Vlugt will be for ever Sinterklaas to me.

(Almost) no stitches made
The last two weekends we went to the camping. There I’m working on Patchwork by Jan Houtman, where I’m working some of the patterns with Caron Waterlillies, wonderfully soft and smooth to work with. I’d been looking forward to working on it for weeks. Here’s a picture of how far I was. But…

I had also taken Unseen Academicals with me the first weekend, and the second one I took Making Money with me. Both written by Terry Pratchett (I just love his sense of humor, the way he can play with words is just brilliant at times) and with both books I had reached the state that it was hard to put them down. Clearly Pratchett is killing my stitching speed. It’s the same here at home, I’ve worked two whole weeks on this one small pattern of my Castles in the Air!

In a couple of weeks we’re again going to the camping, but I promised myself not to bring any Pratchett!
