Visit Handwerkboetiek
A few blogs ago I said that my Mum and I had planned a trip to Roden to visit the Handwerkboetiek. Saturday the 4th of May was the day. At 10 in the morning Mum, a friend and I started driving. From Germany where Mum lives it is practically 1 long straight road on which you drive for 1.5 hours, terribly boring, so the longer I road, the more I started calling myself an idiot. Nearly two hours driving for just 1 little shop! But anyway, eventually we arrived.

We could park right in front of the shop (very nice for people who are less mobile) and there is a large supermarket across the street (very handy for people living in Germany who miss things like “drop” (licorice) or “hagelslag” (chocolate sprinkles)). But first we entered the Handwerkboetiek. And right there and then I forgot about that dead boring road. It was like stepping inside Aladin’s cave. The walls are covered with threads from at least 10 to 15 different brands, and every surface is covered with tubs filled with patterns, books and kits. And to top it all they have a huge selection of fabrics, both precut and on the roll. I instantly because very greedy!

One of the reasons why I wanted to visit the Handwerkboetiek was to buy materials for my new to start project Trees of Stitches. So we started pulling threads and fabrics from everywhere to see which would go together, and which wouldn’t. The lady attending the shop (the mother of the owner) let us do what we were doing and even offered us a cup of coffee. After we’d been busy for about an hour, we quickly turned to paying. We needed to do that to keep the bill from hitting the roof, because every time I turned around, I saw something new that I just had to have! Eventually after one and a half hour we ran from the shop, sad for all the pretty things we had to leave behind, but very happy with what we did buy.

Sorry, but unfortunately I had forgotten my camera, so just a photo of our purchases.
